Description and nomenclature:
Bangabandhu Island Sundarbans fall in the Satkhira Range. The island is located at the base of the Bay of Bengal about 5 km from the deer point of the Sundarbans and 25 km south-west of the Dubalachar. It is also known as Bangabandhu Char, Bangabandhu Island. A fisherman named Malek Farazi, a devout devotee of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was first spotted in the Bay of Bengal in 2002 when he was fishing. At that time, he named the island as 'People's Island', Bangabandhu Island and put a sign board there.

History:
Satellite imagery has existed since the island. After that the island wakes up and sinks again. Later, the size of the island gradually began to stabilize after the 20th. Since then, the island is growing steadily. In the 21st, a group of researchers from Dhaka University went to the newly awakened island. They stayed there for three days and conducted a variety of science-based explorations, including the island's interior soil, DCP surveys and visibility analyzes.

Geographical area and geography:
Although only 2 acres in size at the beginning, the island currently stands at 9.58 square kilometers. It is 5km long and 300m wide with sandy beaches. At present, the island has an area of ​​5.75 square kilometers. Its height is about 2 meters above sea level. The island is built around nine kilometers long and 5 meters wide. Behind the island there is a small sand dune or sand dune. The backdrop is the green, shimmering forests and mangrove forests of less than a decade.

Flora and fauna:
The island's flora and fauna are also diverse in terms of biodiversity. The aquarium is rich in biodiversity, with numerous red crabs, beautiful water, transparent water, wide sandy plains. In addition, a species of Acridian was discovered on the island, the first in Bangladesh. Insects are also found in terrestrial fauna, including species of sprouts, butterflies, bees.

Tourism:
The newly discovered 'Bangabandhu Island' near Sundarbans has huge potential for tourism development. The island is an attractive destination for both foreign and foreign tourists through integrated initiatives in conjunction with known tourist destinations.

How to get to Bangabandhu Island:

Bagerhat can be easily reached by bus from Meghna (01717-388583), tourist transport (01711-131078), Sakura transport (01711-010450), Sohag transport (01718-679302) from Dhaka's Gabtali or Saidabad bus terminals. After this, you can rent a boat that will go to Bangabandhu from Mongla port of Bagerhat. However, it is best to board a bus going directly to Mongla from Saidabad bus stand. In this case, Sundarbans and tourist service buses can be rented for 5 to 5 taka per person.

Where to stay:

From Bangabandhu Island, you will be able to stay at Mangal Pashtu of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation at Tk. To book a room you can contact 04662-75100. You can also spend 20 to 5 nights at the normal quality hotels in Mongla City.
If you want to spend the night in the Sundarbans, you can spend the night at the Tourist Vessel. Apart from this, you can spend the night at the Blue House of Deerpoint, Kichikhali of Tiger Point and Rest House in Katakaya Forest Department. In Neelkamal and Kichikhali, the room is rented for 1 rupees. However, if you rent a room in Kochi, you will be able to stay at Tk. It takes Tk 20 to get a room at Kotka Rest House. Overseas travelers will have to spend 5 bucks per room to spend the night at these rest houses.
